Engineered Hardwood Water Damage Restoration in Tulsa, OK

Engineered hardwood looks like solid wood on top, but underneath it's a thin wood layer glued to a plywood or fiber core. Water affects that core and the glue, so it fails differently from solid hardwood. We test it, tell you what can be dried and what can't, and handle the water side of the job.

How Engineered Hardwood Is Built

Top layer (wear layer): real hardwood, thin to moderately thick depending on the product

  • Core: layers of plywood or a fiberboard
  • Install method: glued down, nailed down, or floating over a pad

Each part reacts to water in its own way.

What Water Does to Engineered Hardwood

SignWhat it usually means
Edges swelling or peakingThe core has absorbed water
Top layer lifting, bubbling or peelingThe glue between layers has let go (delamination)
CuppingMore moisture underneath than on top
Floor feels soft or spongyCore or subfloor damage

Dry or Replace?

Caught early, no swelling or peeling: often can be dried in place.

Swollen edges or delamination: those planks usually need replacing; drying won't rebond the layers.

Floating floor over a wet pad: planks often need to come up so the pad and subfloor can dry.

We test moisture in the planks and the subfloor before recommending either.

Engineered Hardwood FAQs

Can engineered hardwood be dried after a leak?

Yes, if it's caught early and the planks haven't swollen or peeled. Swollen or delaminated planks usually need replacing.

Can engineered hardwood be sanded after water damage?

Only if the wear layer is thick enough. Your flooring contractor can check before deciding.

Is engineered hardwood more water resistant than solid?

It's more stable with humidity, but standing water can still damage the core and the glue.

Do you install new engineered planks?

No. We remove damaged planks and dry the subfloor. A flooring contractor installs the new planks.
